Being able to help pregnant women with substance abuse problems, as well as reduce the incidence rate of birth defects and preterm labor caused by substance abuse, is the goal of this program.

We serve pregnant women with significant involvement in the abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

By combining traditional alcohol and drug treatment techniques with counseling and education, the women in our care are provided individualized treatment and support.

Recognizing the patterns of a destructive cycle of alcohol, tobacco and drug abuse and intervening early enough can make a major difference for these women. The program focus is on positive life style choices for both the mother and the newborn.

Women in the CSAS program receive round-the-clock support. Drug and alcohol use can result in poor decision making and impulse control. A combination of support, education and treatment provide necessary structure.

Recreational activities are incorporated in their daily treatment to help develop increased self-esteem through daily successes. This is an ongoing focus of all treatment intervention.

Emphasis is put on aftercare because these women are at risk once back in their own environment.

Aftercare follows the new mother providing follow-up counseling. Wrap-around services address all aspects of recovery and prevention of relapse as well as parenting issues.

CSAS staff will develop an aftercare plan to incorporate utilization of community-based providers. For clients who remain in the local area, aftercare is provided by CSAS staff. Appropriate referrals and follow-up are made to areas outside the local area.
