FCA Celebration of Success As the school year closes on 2005 - 06, New Pathways Academy held the end of the year ceremonies for the clients at The Florence Crittenton Agency. It was an emotional event, as Hilliary Sims, Principal of the Academy, gave awards to each young girl. Hilliary mentioned something special about each student and gave awards such as the "Beautiful Dreamer Award" to a young lady and told how her creative ideas and dreams had helped her succeed through the school year. Pride in themselves for their hard work and their academic achievements was evident in the face of each girl as she went to the podium to accept her award. So many of these girls talked about how they had never gotten any awards or recognition, or so much help and support for their school work. The faces were all aglow in the room as they each watched the others go up for their awards. This year was a very special one for one client. This young lady graduated from high school. She is the first graduate from New Pathways Academy. She spoke eloquently despite the tears coursing down her cheeks. She thanked her teachers and her case workers and the staff at FCA for all of the love and support that she has gotten. She thanked everyone for coming to her graduation and making her day so special. She thanked the other girls in attendance and called them her sisters. She talked with so much pride and enthusiasm about starting college. This young lady has shared her story with us here, now we can all see what a brave and beautiful child this is. We can all be proud that we were able to assist this girl to rise above the difficulties in her life and begin her on a path of success. We can look at this success story and see the difference we make. This was a very special day at The Florence Crittenton Agency as 24 young ladies, who had each been in trouble or scared or angry or hurt when they came to our door, proudly looked at the things that they had achieved while they have been at FCA and eagerly looked forward to their futures. |
