You can make the difference in the life of a child in need.
There are many children right in East Tennessee without a safe, secure place to call home. The Florence Crittenton Agency wants to partner with families willing to provide a living home for one of these children. You have the opportunity to truly touch a life and change it for the better through foster parenting. You can give a young person a chance at success through a healthy, nurturing home environment.
What children do we serve?
- Children in a transitioning period whose families are in crisis
- Children with emotional or behavior issues
- Pregnant teenagers unable to stay in their homes
- Teenagers
- Sibbling sets
What does it take to be a foster parent in Tennessee?
- Be legally married for at least one year, or single
- Be a resident of the state of Tennessee
- Be employed or have a source of viable income
- Have adequate space in your home for a child
- Have a working automobile with a valid driver's license, and auto insurance
- Have homeowner's or renter's insurance
- Complete 30 hours of required PATH (Parents As Tender Healers) classes
What are the responsibilites a foster parent would have?
- Provide a secure, safe, and nurturing home
- Be part of a team working towards the child's success, including the child's social worker, therapist, teachers, and physicians
- Provide commitment, patience, encouragement, and understanding
- Set consistent, fair, and age appropriate guidelines
- Ensure the child attends school, counseling sessions, and medical appointments
Does Florence Crittenton provide support for foster families?
- Free foster parent training (PATH classes)
- Free individual therapy and counseling for each foster child
- Free ongoing support and training
- Free 24 hour on call support for emergency situations
- 2 free days of respite care a month for each family
- Approximately $1000 a month per child of tax-free reimbursement to cover the child's housing, food, clothing, transportation, recreation, and allowance
